How did you first get exposed to Strength & Conditioning? Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go?michael newbauer 2
One of my coworkers went to Bootcamp and talked me into trying it. Another friend and I made the 9 week commitment. If it was a one day try out then I wouldn’t have come back. I have no clue what my first work out was I just wanted to survive. What I remember is the coach and participants were so encouraging. They allowed you to go at your own pace and talked you through the moves.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting Strength & Conditioning? (before/after)
I have lost over 10 inches on my waist and can tell my body is losing fat in certain areas. My tush is getting the tone it needs. My blood pressure went from being really high to 120/80 and have reduce my cholesterol numbers. I’m able to go to higher weights and moved to the regular Strength & Conditioning classes. I actually see muscles in my arms and legs.

What impact has Strength & Conditioning had on your life?
When I first started didn’t understand the hype about Strength & Conditioning. I had heard that they were a cult but I learned fast that it’s a true supportive community. The support that the coaches give you and make sure they keep you accountable at all times. I talk about my experience to my friends and family on how it has made an impact on my life. My Self Esteem has drastically improved where I more comfortable in my own body. I have a long way to go but I know with the love and support I will get there.

michael newbauer 3What is your favorite Strength & Conditioning/CFD moment?
Finishing my first workout! Participating in the Strength & Conditioning games. Receiving the Spirit Award for Courage Fitness Durham. I was very honored to receive this award. I was on vacation and one of the coaches called me to let me know right away.

What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting Strength & Conditioning?
Give it a try. If I can do it everyone can do it. It’s ok not to be able to do something because they have different ways of teaching the move to fit your needs and health. Don’t try it for just one time because you need to get the whole experience. Does it get easier? The answer is yes and no because your always challenging yourself to the next level.

What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of Strength & Conditioning?
